How to obtain a student visa in Nepal ?
First, if you have not done it yet, read the general information about studies and student visas on the Web site of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
Students are encouraged to come in France to study for higher studies, usually after a Bachelor’s degree obtained in Nepal or elsewhere.
Visas are not easily obtained if you plan to start studies at Intermediate level, unless the subject matter is particular to France or because of special circumstances.
Students of French lenguage who want to start studies in France without previous studies in Nepal, or elsewhere, have little chance to obtain a visa.
Universities in France are independent and there is not central point for admission or information : you must visit the Web sites of every University you find interesting and apply directly. To help you, the Alliance française of Katmandou has a CampusFrance bureau that will guide you and give you the best possible information at no cost.
Most universities teach in French language, but curriculums in English are getting more common. To learn French, see here.
Before applying for a student visa at the embassy, you must have an interview at the CampusFrance bureau of the Alliance Française.
After this interview, you may apply to the French Embassy (see above).
You will be called for two interviews :
one with the Cultural Counsellor to talk about you studies.
One wit the Consul to examine your resources and other consular concerns.
The process for a student visa may take up to 3 weeks : plan in advance.
If refused, you may appeal to the French Embassy.
